GILGIT: The picturesque Khunjerab Pass, Pakistan’s highest border crossing with China, has turned white as it received the first snowfall of the season on Friday. The fresh layer of snow has transformed the mountain peaks and valleys into a stunning winter landscape, attracting the attention of tourists and travelers.
According to local sources, the temperature in the region dropped significantly following the snowfall, marking the early arrival of winter in Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities have advised travelers to take precautionary measures due to slippery roads and cold weather conditions.
Every year, Khunjerab Pass — located at an altitude of around 15,397 feet — receives heavy snowfall, leading to its temporary closure during the peak winter months. The early snowfall this year is seen as a sign of changing weather patterns in the northern areas.
