King Charles and Queen Camilla delighted onlookers with their hands-on approach during a visit to the Darjeeling Express restaurant on Wednesday. The royal couple actively participated in preparations for Ramazan, which is set to begin on February 28.
Owned by British restaurateur Asma Khan, the restaurant hosted the King and Queen as they packed dates for local hospitals. Khan was particularly impressed by the King’s speed, joking, “I didn’t realise the King would be so fast!”—a remark that sparked laughter among those present.
The couple then stepped into the kitchen alongside head chef Asha Pradhan, helping to prepare biryani boxes for the charity Doorstep, which aids families in finding permanent housing. In a lighthearted moment, Queen Camilla playfully reminded King Charles to stay focused after he became momentarily distracted.
The day’s engagements also took the King and Queen to Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, where they met with members of London’s Syrian community. The King impressed attendees with his knowledge of Syrian cuisine and culture, moving restaurant owner Imad Eddin al Arnab with his words of support.
Al Arnab later praised King Charles for his engagement, emphasizing the importance of royal backing for the Syrian community in the UK.
The visit showcased the couple’s commitment to fostering cultural connections and community support, earning admiration from all those they encountered.
