LAHORE – 18 October 2025:
In a landmark decision, the Punjab government has granted permission to celebrate Basant in Lahore, marking the return of the traditional kite-flying festival after more than a decade-long ban.
Officials confirmed that the event will be held under strict safety protocols, with special emphasis on the use of safe kite strings and designated flying zones to prevent accidents and power disruptions.
“The government wants to revive cultural activities while ensuring public safety,” said a senior Punjab official, adding that police and rescue teams will remain on high alert during the festivities.
The ban on Basant was originally imposed due to fatal incidents caused by metallic or glass-coated strings. Authorities now plan to introduce licensed kite materials and enforce penalties for violations.
Residents and business owners have welcomed the move, saying it will boost tourism and local industries, including kite-making and hospitality.
Social media is already buzzing with excitement, with hashtags like #Basant2025 and #LahoreCelebrates trending across platforms.
