In a major crackdown against illicit liquor sellers, Lahore police have seized a significant amount of alcohol intended for sale during the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations across various parts of the city. The police acted on intelligence and conducted a successful raid at the Model Town Katchery parking area, where they recovered a substantial stock of wine, amounting to 140 bottles.
During the operation, a suspect identified as Ashraf was arrested. He was in charge of the alcohol stock and admitted to purchasing the wine with the intent to sell it during the New Year’s festivities. The police have registered a case against him and are now investigating the origin of this large consignment of illicit alcohol.
In response to the upcoming celebrations, Additional IG Traffic Punjab has issued special traffic instructions for New Year’s Night. According to the orders, vehicles exceeding the designated capacity should not be allowed entry into the city. Additionally, extra traffic personnel will be deployed along major highways to manage the anticipated crowd and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Furthermore, Lahore’s District Commissioner has issued a notification imposing a complete ban on fireworks for the New Year’s celebration. This measure aims to prevent air pollution, which can cause significant health concerns. The DC has urged the residents of Lahore to comply with the ban for the collective well-being of the community.
Authorities are taking all necessary steps to ensure public safety and maintain order during the holiday celebrations.
