Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Saeed Appointed as WAPDA Chairman

Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Saeed has officially assumed the position of Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) following federal cabinet approval.

🤝 Leadership Transition & Welcome

• Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif personally met with Lt Gen (R) Saeed in Islamabad and congratulated him on his new appointment.

• Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting and offered support for WAPDA’s strategic direction.

🧭 Background & Vision

• With a nearly 40-year distinguished military career, Lt Gen (R) Saeed brings a wealth of experience in leadership, planning, and organizational reform.

• His assignments have included Chief of General Staff, Corps Commander of V Corps (Karachi), President of the National Defence University, and Director-General (Analysis) at the ISI.

• As DG Rangers (Sindh), he spearheaded major security and legal reforms in Karachi improving law and order. During his tenure, he led operations coordinating with police and intelligence agencies.

• He retired in November 2023 and was awarded the prestigious Hilal‑i‑Imtiaz (Military) for his service.

• Analysts expect his leadership to bring strategic discipline and improved project execution to WAPDA, especially at a time of rising challenges in water resource and hydropower development.
