A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck several regions in Pakistan, including the national capital Islamabad, Malakand, Swabi, and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the tremors were felt at approximately 2:45 pm local time.
Additionally, areas in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan experienced the earthquake, adding to the widespread impact of the seismic event. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 137 kilometres, with its epicenter located near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.
While there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties, residents in the affected areas reported feeling intense shaking, leading to concerns about potential structural impacts.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency response teams are on standby to address any aftermath. Earthquakes are not uncommon in the region, given its proximity to tectonic plate boundaries, and residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines provided by local authorities.
