PESHAWAR: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Peshawar and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, triggering panic among residents.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the tremors were felt in Peshawar, Swat, Chars Adda, Mardan, and surrounding areas. The earthquake’s epicenter was reported to be in the Hindu Kush region, with a depth of 120 kilometers.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage have surfaced, but the tremors sent people rushing out of their homes and offices in fear. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and report any structural damages
Seismologists warn that the region, located in an active seismic zone, remains vulnerable to earthquakes. Emergency response teams are on standby in case of any aftershocks.
