Karachi: Mahrang Baloch, a well-known Baloch activist, was prevented from flying out of Pakistan on Monday at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. According to reports, immigration officials stopped Baloch from boarding her flight due to her name being placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Baloch, who has been an outspoken advocate for Baloch rights, was attempting to travel abroad for personal reasons. Despite having all required documents, she was denied permission to leave the country.
In response, Baloch condemned the move, stating that it was an attempt to silence critics and restrict her movement. She emphasized that this action was part of a broader effort to stifle the voices of those advocating for the rights of the Baloch people.
The Pakistani government has yet to comment on the reasons for placing Baloch’s name on the ECL, and it remains unclear whether the ban will be lifted. The incident has sparked concerns among human rights organizations about increasing restrictions on activists in Pakistan.
