India has taken a major step against Pakistan, suspending several key agreements and tightening diplomatic channels in response to what officials have described as “repeated provocations and cross-border threats.”
In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian government confirmed that it has halted all bilateral trade talks, cultural exchange programs, and is reviewing the Indus Waters Treaty – a landmark agreement between the two countries signed in 1960.
The move comes after heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), with Indian intelligence agencies accusing Pakistan of backing recent infiltration attempts and cross-border militant activity.
“India cannot tolerate activities that threaten its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens. This decisive action is necessary,” said Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar during a press conference on Friday.
Additionally, Indian authorities have suspended visas for Pakistani nationals and directed a reduction in the diplomatic staff at Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.
🇵🇰 Pakistan Responds
In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a strong condemnation, calling India’s actions “hostile, unwarranted, and against the spirit of dialogue.” Islamabad warned that the steps taken by New Delhi could further destabilize regional peace and urged the international community to take notice.
“Pakistan remains committed to peace and cooperation, but any move undermining this goal will be met with appropriate diplomatic responses,” a spokesperson said.
🌍 International Reactions
Global powers including the United States and China have called for restraint, urging both countries to de-escalate tensions through dialogue and diplomacy.
The situation remains fluid, with security on both sides of the border placed on high alert. Further developments are expected in the coming days.
