In a disturbing incident of animal cruelty in Rawalpindi district, a donkey (jennet) had its ears severed, sparking outrage and accusations in the local community. The incident, which occurred in Dhakala Dakkhana, Saagri village, has been attributed to a longstanding feud between individuals over land.
Tanveer Hussain, the owner of the donkey, reported the incident to Rawat Police Station after discovering the animal mutilated on June 4. According to Hussain, who is a farmer, the donkey typically roamed his fields after harvest but returned home that evening with its ears mutilated.
Local witnesses hinted at Arshad Mehmood, a relative, as the perpetrator, but did not explicitly name him due to fear. Hussain conducted his own inquiries and presented evidence to the police, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) nearly two weeks after the incident.
Speaking to reporters, SHO Chaudary Zulfiqar confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. The incident has drawn attention to issues of animal welfare and the need for swift justice in cases of cruelty.
This marks the second reported animal cruelty case in the country within two weeks, highlighting growing concerns over such acts and their consequences on community harmony. Authorities continue to urge witnesses to come forward with any relevant information to aid in the investigation.
