In a peculiar and humorous incident out of Indonesia, a man has married his rice cooker, praising its quiet nature, only to divorce it just four days later for its “limited cooking abilities.”
Rudi Prasetyo, 32, from Jakarta, made headlines after he held a wedding ceremony with his rice cooker, declaring it the perfect partner due to its “silence and calm presence.” He spoke to reporters at the event, saying, “I’ve always appreciated its peaceful nature. Unlike people, it doesn’t complain or ask for anything. It’s the ideal companion.”
However, the honeymoon phase was short-lived. After just four days of marital bliss, Rudi filed for divorce, citing the rice cooker’s “lack of versatility” as the main issue. “It only knows how to cook rice. I thought it would offer more—perhaps steam some vegetables, make a soup, or even prepare a simple stir-fry. But no, it just cooks rice. That’s not enough for a long-term commitment,” he said.
Rudi has vowed to move on and explore other kitchen appliances that offer more variety. “Maybe a multi-function pressure cooker or an air fryer can be the next love of my life,” he mused.
The divorce has since sparked a wave of comments on social media, with many joking about the “quiet yet unfulfilling” nature of the rice cooker, while others sympathized with Rudi’s desire for more “dynamic” companionship in the kitchen.
As for the rice cooker, it remains in Rudi’s kitchen, silently awaiting its next task.
