In a major step toward digital governance, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially launched an online Nikah (marriage) registration service, enabling citizens to register their marriages digitally from anywhere in Pakistan.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize civil registration services and make them more efficient through technology. The new system allows users to upload required documents, verify identity details, and receive official marriage registration certificates without visiting local offices.
According to NADRA officials, the digital platform will help curb fraudulent registrations, improve data accuracy, and ensure better integration with national databases. “This is a historic step in simplifying citizens’ access to essential civil services,” said a NADRA spokesperson. “Couples can now complete the entire process online with greater ease, speed, and security.”
The online service is expected to reduce paperwork, eliminate delays caused by manual processing, and provide citizens—especially those living abroad—with a convenient way to register marriages remotely.
Legal experts and digital rights advocates have welcomed the move, calling it a major leap toward transparency and record modernization. However, they also emphasized the need for strict cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive personal data.
With this initiative, Pakistan joins a growing list of countries embracing digital transformation in civil registration systems, reflecting a commitment to e-governance and citizen-centric services.
