South African cricketer Matthew Breetzke made history on Monday by scoring 150 runs, setting the record for the highest debut score in ODI history. His innings helped South Africa post 304-6 against New Zealand in the tri-nation series in Pakistan.
Breetzke’s knock, which included 11 fours and five sixes, surpassed the 148-run debut record set by Desmond Haynes for West Indies in 1978. He built key partnerships with Temba Bavuma (20) and Jason Smith (41), providing a strong foundation for South Africa.
He reached his century off 128 balls and brought up his 150 with a six before being dismissed in the 46th over. Wiaan Mulder (64 off 60) also played a crucial role in pushing South Africa past 300 runs.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry (2/59) and Will O’Rourke (2/72) were the standout bowlers. South Africa fielded four debutants due to injuries and player unavailability, while New Zealand brought in Devon Conway for the injured Rachin Ravindra.
