The highly anticipated collaboration between Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat and Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has finally dropped, and the music video for their track Jatt Mehkma is already making waves. Released on Friday, the video has garnered an impressive 1.1 million views within just five hours.
In the music video, Hayat portrays a mobster’s girlfriend or wife, channeling the elegance of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Dressed in a classic black dress, tiered pearls, and her hair styled in a sophisticated updo, Hayat exudes the glamour of a bygone era. Singh complements her style, donning a sharp pinstriped suit beneath a luxurious fur coat.
The music video, which is directed and written by Singh himself, opens with Hayat and Singh arriving at a lavish gathering, accompanied by a group of similarly well-dressed men and women. The party setting hints at a celebration of gangsters and their luxurious lifestyle. However, the scene takes a dramatic turn when armed men ambush their convoy as they leave the party. Hayat, in a stunning show of confidence, sheds her fur stole with flair and brandishes a revolver, showcasing her fierce side.
In a twist, a group of armed children appears and opens fire, adding an unexpected, almost surreal element to the action. Singh, amused by the chaos, laughs and pulls Hayat back to the car, as their entourage—referred to as the Blood Brothers of YoYo—shares in the light-hearted moment.
The collaboration was first teased in October when Hayat and Singh shared a behind-the-scenes video, hinting at the Karampura Karachi connection and the exciting partnership. The teaser showcased the outfits worn in the music video, building anticipation among fans.
Jatt Mehkma is the second track from Singh’s latest album Glory, which features a total of 18 tracks. The album, described as a “home-grown international” project, also features contributions from Pakistani artists Wahab Bugti and Sahiban. Bugti is featured on the track Beeba, alongside Italian singer Laïoung, while Sahiban appears on Rap God with Handles.
This collaboration has not only thrilled fans but also further cemented the growing cultural exchange between Pakistan and India in the music industry. With the music video’s success and Singh’s album gaining attention, Jatt Mehkma promises to be a major hit in both countries.
