Meta has unveiled its latest development – the introduction of Horizon Worlds on the web and mobile devices. The tech giant has confirmed that “Super Rumble,” the inaugural offering from its in-house gaming studio, Ouro Interactive, is now accessible to a select group of Android users through the Meta Quest app. Furthermore, the game is poised to debut on iOS devices in the near future. Those who prefer the desktop experience can access the game directly through Horizon’s official website, with an option to request access.
When Meta initially launched Super Rumble, they made a commitment to include it as one of the pioneering experiences available on the new app. Promising cross-platform functionality, Meta is ensuring that players can engage with Super Rumble alongside their friends, regardless of whether they are using mobile devices, web browsers, or virtual reality headsets. This commitment to inclusivity is a focal point for the company’s vision of the metaverse.
Meta’s spokesperson stated, “The metaverse should be available to everyone — no matter what device they’re on. And while Quest headsets are the most immersive way to access the metaverse, we believe there should be multiple entry points. Bringing Worlds to more surfaces is a step toward delivering on that vision and opening up the experience to more people.”
However, adapting the game for various platforms has presented challenges, particularly in optimizing controls such as mute and pause for mobile devices and computers. While the exact distinctions between the cross-platform experiences remain unclear, it’s worth noting that Super Rumble on mobile and web is still in the testing phase. Consequently, players may encounter bugs and other issues as the platform matures.
In addition to Super Rumble, Meta has also revealed plans to introduce more worlds to its metaverse over the next few months. These virtual environments will offer opportunities for socializing, chatting, and even attending free concerts, all designed to be accessible across a wide array of devices. This move signifies Meta’s commitment to fulfilling its vision of a versatile and inclusive metaverse for everyone.
