At Sunday’s Vanity Fair Oscars party, Miles Teller opened up about his eagerly anticipated role in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael.” The 37-year-old actor expressed his excitement and candidly addressed the sensitive subject matter surrounding the film.
Teller is set to portray John Branca, who not only served as Michael Jackson’s manager but currently acts as the star’s estate co-executor and the film’s producer. In a conversation with Variety, Teller revealed that he carefully considered the allegations of child abuse made against Jackson before accepting the role.
“You only get so many opportunities in this business to make films,” Teller shared. “I’m really excited to be a part of it. I think it’s going to blow people away.”
The “Top Gun: Maverick” star delved into his preparation for the role, emphasizing the importance of immersing himself in information. “I think you just try to inundate yourself with as much information as you can.”
Teller disclosed that he had the chance to meet John Branca personally, stating, “I’ve gotten to hang out with him a little bit.” Additionally, he mentioned meetings with producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, highlighting the incredible team involved in the project.
“Regardless of what you know or what your opinion may be, Michael is one of the greatest to ever do it, if not the greatest,” Teller expressed. “He deserves a movie, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
The actor also expressed his joy at being part of the ensemble cast, citing his theatre background. “I just like being a part of the team if you come from theatre; I think the word ensemble means a lot.”
“Michael” is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 18, 2025, promising to offer an in-depth exploration of the life and legacy of the iconic musician.
