In a surprising turn of events, controversial religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi recently made headlines after revealing his intention to marry Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant. During a recent appearance on a podcast, Mufti Qavi referred to Sawant as “Ahl-e-Kitaab” (People of the Book), claiming that she could be considered part of this group due to her connection to Hinduism, citing Islamic scholars like Dr. Zakir Naik, Professor Hamidullah, and Dr. Ahmed Deedat, who have referred to Hindu scriptures as “holy books.”
The statement came after Qavi posed a question to Sawant during the podcast, asking whether she was currently married to a Hindu or a Muslim man. Sawant, known for her bold statements and controversial actions, had previously expressed her desire to marry a Pakistani Islamic scholar, and recently performed Umrah, further fueling the ongoing conversation.
Mufti Qavi, who has been at the center of several controversies in the past, went on to share his willingness to marry Sawant but said there was one condition: he would need to consult with his mother before making a final decision.
When the host reminded Qavi about Rakhi’s previous announcement of plans to marry Pakistani actor and model Dodi Khan, who had proposed to her, Qavi did not shy away from revealing his interest. “I am willing to marry her, but I must ask my mother first,” he said.
In a poignant moment, the scholar also spoke about a past marriage he had, in which he wed a woman from a prominent family. He shared that his late wife was a friend to several key figures in South Asian political history, including Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Quaid-e-Azam, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Qavi stated that he still remembered her fondly and prayed for her eternal peace, expressing respect for her memory despite their marriage ending tragically with her passing.
On the other hand, Rakhi Sawant had previously announced plans to marry Dodi Khan in an Islamic ceremony after he proposed to her. However, their relationship encountered roadblocks when Khan allegedly refused to marry her. Sawant responded to the situation with mixed statements, clarifying that once they meet in person, she would provide further details to the media.
“I haven’t taken a U-turn, nor have I run away,” she said. “I’ve spoken to Rakhi, and once we meet in person, I will update you all,” Mufti Qavi emphasized, adding that his earlier comments about wanting to marry Rakhi Sawant remained true. “I plan to marry Rakhi and then let everyone know,” he stated.
This statement has sparked a mix of reactions, with critics questioning the appropriateness of Qavi’s remarks, while supporters continue to admire his candidness. As the story unfolds, it seems that the relationship between Mufti Qavi, Rakhi Sawant, and her rumored suitors will continue to be a topic of public debate.
