ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has successfully recovered Rs. 168.5 billion related to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Peshawar, marking a historic achievement in its 25-year history.
Initiated in 2018, the investigation uncovered serious allegations of illegal contract allocations and financial mismanagement. NAB refuted claims of Rs. 31.5 billion made by contractors in the International Court of Arbitration.
The inquiry revealed improper contract awards and significant project delays, prompting the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to claim Rs. 86 billion in damages. NAB’s actions not only saved Rs. 108.5 billion but also led to a settlement that reduced contractors’ claims from Rs. 5 billion to Rs. 2.6 billion.
This recovery highlights NAB’s dedication to promoting accountability and transparency in public projects.
