The National Computer Emergency Response Team (nCERT) has refuted recent claims circulating on social media about cyberattacks and ATM closures. In an advisory issued after consultations with the State Bank of Pakistan and other stakeholders, nCERT confirmed that there have been no incidents affecting ATMs or online banking systems. All banking infrastructure, including ATMs, is functioning normally.
The advisory urges the public to disregard these false rumors and follow the official guidelines for their financial security. It emphasizes the importance of observing surroundings when using ATMs, avoiding the sharing of sensitive financial information such as PINs, passwords, user IDs, or OTPs, and refraining from clicking on suspicious links. The public is encouraged to rely on verified sources for accurate information.
This move by nCERT aims to dispel panic and ensure the continued trust of citizens in the banking system amidst the spread of misinformation.
