The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in anticipation of significant monsoon rains expected from August 14 to 18. The alert comes as relevant departments have been placed on high alert due to the potential risk of flooding across the province.
According to the NDMA, the anticipated rainfall is likely to cause urban and flash flooding in both city areas and mountainous regions. There is also an expected increase in water flow in rivers and streams.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has provided further details, forecasting additional rain in several key areas including Hazara, Malakand Division, Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Haripur, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mohmand, Orakzai, and Waziristan.
In a related development, a new monsoon system is anticipated to enter eastern Sindh on August 16. This system is expected to bring thunderstorms and rain to Karachi and various rural districts of Sindh. The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert, indicating a likelihood of thunderstorms and rain in Karachi from August 16 to 19. Affected districts include Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal.
Additionally, from August 16 to 19, thunderstorms and rain are forecasted for the districts of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Larkana.
For Karachi, the weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with light rain and drizzle over the coming days. As of Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 34.1 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 67%.
