Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, August 13, 2024 — A new wave of monsoon rains is set to impact Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province starting tomorrow, August 14, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The department has issued a warning of heavy to torrential rainfall from August 14 to 16, with intermittent showers expected to continue until August 18.
Monsoon winds are anticipated to affect the upper and middle regions of KP, raising concerns about potential landslides in the higher districts. The PMD has also alerted residents to the risk of flooding in both plains and urban areas.
In response to the impending weather conditions, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a statewide alert. District administrations have been urged to stay vigilant and ensure that emergency machinery is on standby. The PDMA emphasized the increased risk of urban flooding, particularly in the low-lying plains.
The districts expected to experience significant rainfall include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Batagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Peshawar. Rainfall is also anticipated in Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, South and North Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
Meanwhile, Balochistan is forecasted to experience warm and humid conditions, with the possibility of thunderstorms in Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Loralai, and Ziarat.
In a related weather update, the PMD reported the following highest temperatures recorded yesterday: Quetta and Turbat at 38°C, Kalat at 34°C, Zhob at 27°C, and Ziarat at 25°C. Sibi reached a sweltering 45°C, Nushki 46°C, Gwadar 34°C, and Jwani 33°C.
