In a press release on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that as of now, no cases of the JN.1 variant of the Coronavirus have been detected in any part of the country. The statement comes amid growing concerns globally regarding the emergence of the JN.1 variant, a subvirus of Omicron.
According to the ministry spokesperson, the JN.1 variant has been reported in some countries, raising alarms in the international community. Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Dr Nadeem Jan, stated that the government is closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing that the risk of the variant spreading in Pakistan is currently very low.
Dr. Nadeem Jan reassured the public that the government is committed to implementing the recommendations of international health regulations. He highlighted the presence of an effective screening system at international airports, ensuring thorough checks at entry and exit routes of the country.
In response to the potential threat posed by the JN.1 variant, the Ministry of Health has advised provincial and regional health institutions to intensify testing efforts. Dr. Nadeem Jan urged citizens to remain cautious and adhere to preventive measures, particularly emphasizing the use of masks to mitigate the risk of diseases like COVID-19 and flu during the winter season.
