The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in Egypt has announced a strong possibility of Eid al-Adha falling on June 16 this year.
Arab media reports indicate that NRIAG has issued a statement predicting the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah to be observed on Friday, June 7. The statement elaborates that the new moon of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 1445 AH will be visible in the skies of Mecca for 11 minutes after sunset and in Cairo for 18 minutes.
Based on these calculations, the Day of Arafah is expected to be on June 15, with Eid al-Adha likely to be celebrated on June 16.
It’s important to note that the final decision on Eid al-Adha’s date can only be made after the announcement of the moon sighting by Saudi Arabia.
