KARACHI – After a meeting with the US Consulate team, Onijah Andrew Robinson has agreed to be repatriated to New York, as her renewed visa is set to expire on February 11.
Robinson, who arrived in Pakistan on October 11, 2023, had been living in Karachi after allegedly being deceived by her supposed husband, Nidal Ahmed Memon, a resident of Garden South Karachi.
Initially, Robinson refused to disclose her plans regarding her return when speaking to a journalist. However, in a recent development, sources confirmed that she has now agreed to fly back to the United States.
A US Consulate team met Robinson at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi on Friday. During the meeting, JPMC head Professor Chunni Laal briefed US officials on her mental and physical health, reporting significant improvements. When she was admitted, her hemoglobin level was dangerously low at four, requiring at least three blood transfusions, which increased it to nine. She was also being treated for bipolar disorder with continuous medical supervision.
A JPMC spokesperson confirmed that the US Consulate was informed about her prescribed medication, ensuring a smooth medical transition upon her return. Robinson is expected to be discharged before February 11 after receiving clearance from a medical board.
This development comes after Robinson previously refused to board a flight to New York, which had been arranged by the Sindh governor. She was escorted to the departure lounge and even taken to the aircraft under police and airport security supervision. However, she declined to board the Qatar Airways flight, which had a layover in Doha before heading to New York.
Her refusal to leave Pakistan at that time raised questions among airport officials, with uncertainty surrounding her motivations. However, with her latest agreement to repatriate, preparations are now being made for her safe return to the US.
