Islamabad, September 15, 2024 — Pakistan and Turkmenistan are on the brink of finalizing a pivotal agreement that will grant Turkmenistan access to Gwadar Port, positioning it as the first Central Asian nation to directly benefit from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This strategic move aims to enhance trade routes and regional connectivity between South and Central Asia.
The agreement will pave the way for a range of joint initiatives, including the development of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline, improved railways, and expanded fiber optic connectivity. These projects are designed to integrate and boost economic ties across the region.
Pakistan’s government, with strong backing from political parties and the resilient people of Balochistan, is committed to fully leveraging CPEC’s potential. In support of this, a committee is reviewing plans to channel 50% of public sector imports through Gwadar Port, reinforcing its strategic importance.
The successful implementation of this agreement is expected to play a crucial role in Pakistan’s economic future, reinforcing CPEC as a vital component of the country’s growth and regional influence.
