Islamabad – The Government of Pakistan has officially announced public holidays on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6, 2025, to observe Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, both public and private sector offices, educational institutions, and banks across the country will remain closed on these dates, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
Ashura is one of the most significant days in the Islamic world, especially for the Shia community, who participate in processions and majalis (gatherings) to honor the sacrifices made at Karbala.
Provincial governments have also been instructed to ensure tight security arrangements during the two-day observance to maintain law and order and facilitate mourners.
