Islamabad, August 19, 2023 — In a dramatic operation, the Pakistan Army has successfully rescued over six mountaineers from the United States, Chile, Macedonia, and Nepal who were stranded at K2, one of the world’s most challenging peaks. The mountaineers, who had been attempting to summit K2, fell victim to severe high-altitude sickness while at the base camp.
The mountaineers reached out for emergency assistance, prompting a swift response from the Pakistani military. Despite the dangerous terrain and adverse weather conditions, the army’s rescue teams navigated the treacherous routes to reach and evacuate the climbers.
The rescued individuals are now receiving medical treatment and have expressed profound gratitude towards the Pakistani Army for their life-saving intervention.
In a related series of operations, the Pakistan Army’s aviation units also rescued five foreign mountaineers and a local guide who were stranded in the vicinity of K2 base camp, as well as in Concordia and Shigar regions of Gilgit-Baltistan.
