In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the replacement of Alia Rasheed as its media director, appointing Sami ul Haq Burney in her place.
Rasheed, a seasoned sports journalist, tendered her resignation on Friday, citing personal reasons. However, sources suggest that potential interference in her department could have also contributed to her decision.
One significant point of contention was the appointment of former Punjab Minister Amir Mir as Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s media consultant, which reportedly led to conflicts within the board.
Rasheed had been appointed to the board in October of the previous year, marking a historic moment as the first woman to hold the position of media director in the PCB.
Replacing her is Sami ul Haq Burney, who previously served as the PCB’s media director from 2019 to 2023. Burney brings a wealth of experience to the role, having also led the media department at the International Cricket Council and held positions as a journalist in the past.
This change in leadership comes at a crucial time for the PCB, as it aims to navigate the complexities of media relations and communications within the realm of Pakistani cricket.
