Pakistan Customs officials have reported a significant rise in drug seizures at Jinnah International Airport, with expensive narcotics being intercepted daily through international parcel shipments.
In a recent operation on Saturday at the International Mail Office, authorities confiscated 3.8 kilograms of marijuana concealed within a parcel sent from Thailand. The narcotics, valued at approximately Rs15 million, were hidden inside boxes of candies, which were intended to serve as a cover for the illicit cargo.
Additional Collector of Customs Faisal Khan explained that the parcel, addressed to Mrs. Mirza Junaid in DHA Karachi, was flagged due to suspicions raised during the scanning process. “The scan revealed the hidden marijuana, and a subsequent narcotics test confirmed the presence of the drug,” Khan stated.
The shipment originated from Bangkok, Thailand, and the authorities have registered a case as they work to dismantle the drug network involved in the smuggling operation.
