The Pakistan cricket team has been penalized 25% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the recently concluded Test match against South Africa in Cape Town. The sanction was imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft in accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
According to ICC regulations, teams are required to complete their overs within the allocated time. After reviewing the match timings, Pakistan was found to be one over short of the target, even after time allowances were considered.
In addition to the monetary penalty, the team has also been docked one ICC World Test Championship (WTC) point, as per the championship’s playing conditions.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam accepted the sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The team is now focusing on addressing the issue ahead of their next match in the series.
This fine serves as a reminder to all teams about the importance of maintaining the required over-rate, with WTC points and financial consequences at stake.
