International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday to discuss the role of nuclear energy in climate mitigation and adaptation, according to a statement by the Foreign Office.
During his two-day visit to Pakistan, Grossi engaged in discussions on the financial aspects of nuclear energy for climate action, as well as ongoing IAEA projects in the country. The talks also covered key global issues on the IAEA’s agenda.
Pakistan maintains a longstanding partnership with the IAEA, being one of the largest recipients of the agency’s Technical Cooperation Programme. This collaboration spans various sectors, including nuclear energy, health, water resource management, food, and agriculture.
The Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its cooperation with the IAEA and expressed its anticipation for continued engagement.
Pakistan was elected to the IAEA Board of Governors for the 21st time last year, underscoring its active role in global nuclear governance. The IAEA, recognized as the United Nations’ “Atoms for Peace and Development” organization, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology worldwide.
