In a pioneering move to combat worsening air pollution, Pakistan has introduced anti-smog cannons in Lahore, aiming to reduce hazardous smog levels and improve air quality in the city. The technology, already in use in several countries, works by spraying fine water mist into the air to help capture dust, smoke, and other harmful particles.
Officials stated that the initiative is part of Punjab government’s broader strategy to fight environmental challenges and protect public health. Lahore, frequently ranked among the world’s most polluted cities during winter months, has been at the center of the country’s air quality crisis.
Environmental experts welcomed the step but emphasized the need for long-term measures, including stricter industrial regulations, cleaner energy use, and public transport improvements, to address the root causes of smog.
