In a major step to support Pakistani Hajj pilgrims, the Government of Pakistan has introduced a comprehensive new health policy aimed at ensuring the well-being and safety of pilgrims during their journey. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, developed the policy to address critical health needs from pre-departure medical screenings to on-ground care in Saudi Arabia.
The new policy mandates health screenings for all pilgrims prior to departure to identify any pre-existing conditions that may require special care or assistance. It also includes immunizations against common diseases and offers a special focus on vaccinations for diseases prevalent in high-density gatherings. All pilgrims will receive information on heatstroke prevention, dehydration management, and other health risks specific to the Hajj environment.
The Ministry has further organized medical teams, including doctors, nurses, and emergency responders, who will accompany pilgrims and provide 24/7 healthcare services during Hajj. These teams will be equipped with essential medical supplies and mobile health units to reach pilgrims across various sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The policy also incorporates digital tracking of health records through an app designed for pilgrims. This app will enable quick access to health histories and provide real-time updates on health advisories.
Minister for Religious Affairs, along with health officials, stated, “This policy aims to give our pilgrims a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey. The health and safety of our citizens is our top priority, and we are committed to providing the best possible support.”
Pilgrims have welcomed the new policy, expressing relief and confidence in the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and comfortable Hajj experience.
