KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy, in a major counter-narcotics operation, has seized narcotics worth nearly $1 billion from a vessel in the Arabian Sea, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Navy, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, leading to the interception of a suspicious boat engaged in drug smuggling through international waters.
The seized contraband included large quantities of crystal meth, heroin, and hashish, which were confiscated before the smugglers could transport them to international markets. The successful operation highlights Pakistan Navy’s continued efforts to curb illegal trafficking and ensure maritime security in the region.
“This major bust reflects the Navy’s unrelenting resolve to prevent drug trafficking through Pakistan’s maritime routes,” the statement said, adding that such operations not only protect Pakistan’s coastline but also contribute to regional and global counter-narcotics initiatives.
The suspects apprehended during the raid were handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.
Officials noted that the Pakistan Navy, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Force and other security agencies, has intensified surveillance and patrolling in the Arabian Sea to counter smuggling, piracy, and terrorism-related activities.
