Pakistan Railways is embarking on a significant shift to solar energy, with a phased approach to power its stations, offices, workshops, and factories. This initiative marks a substantial step toward reducing operational costs and promoting sustainability.
The first phase of the project targets 99 key locations, including major stations and divisional headquarters. By implementing solar power at these sites, Pakistan Railways expects to save approximately Rs. 1.8 billion. This initial phase is a part of a broader strategy designed to ease financial pressures and foster a greener future for the organization.
The transition is being managed with the expertise of NESPAK, a prominent engineering consultancy. Their involvement ensures a well-coordinated and efficient implementation of the solar power systems.
Solar energy adoption is strategically aligned with Pakistan Railways’ efforts to address economic challenges and reduce dependency on conventional energy sources. This move is anticipated to bring long-term financial benefits and enhance the sustainability of Pakistan Railways’ operations.
