ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has been ranked fifth among the world’s cheapest countries for public transport, according to a new international cost-of-living survey comparing fares across major cities.
The study found that Pakistan offers some of the most affordable bus, metro, and ride-hailing services globally, making daily commuting significantly cheaper than in most other nations. Analysts say the ranking reflects the government’s continued subsidies and low fuel pricing policies for public transport operators.
Commuters in cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad reportedly spend a fraction of what passengers in Europe or the Middle East pay for similar distances. However, experts note that while affordability is high, service quality and infrastructure still face challenges.
The report praised Pakistan’s efforts to maintain accessible travel options for low- and middle-income citizens despite global economic pressures.
