In a dominant display at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China, Pakistan’s hockey team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 with a commanding 5-1 win over China on Thursday.
From the first whistle, Pakistan asserted control, swiftly taking a 2-0 lead by halftime. Their offensive pressure continued in the second half, adding three more goals while conceding just one. Nadeem Ahmed and Hannan Shahid were the standout performers, each scoring twice, while China’s GAO Jiesheng netted a consolation goal in the fourth quarter.
This victory marks Pakistan’s second successive win in the tournament. A day earlier, they narrowly defeated Japan 2-1 in a closely contested match. In their group stage games, Pakistan had drawn 2-2 against both Malaysia and Korea.
Pakistan’s next challenge comes against their traditional rivals, India, in the final pool match on Saturday. With India remaining unbeaten so far, the stage is set for an intense clash between the two teams.
