In a historic achievement, Pakistan has successfully launched its first hyperspectral remote sensing satellite from a launch site in China, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s space and technology program.
The satellite, developed in collaboration with China’s national space agency, will provide high-resolution, multi-band imaging to support agriculture monitoring, urban planning, water resource management, and disaster response.
According to officials from the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the hyperspectral satellite will enable Pakistan to capture detailed environmental data across hundreds of spectral bands, giving the country advanced capabilities in earth observation and resource mapping.
“This mission reflects Pakistan’s growing technological partnership with China and our commitment to using space science for peaceful and developmental purposes,” a SUPARCO spokesperson said.
The launch also strengthens the longstanding Pakistan-China space cooperation, under the framework of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Experts say the success of the hyperspectral satellite will not only improve Pakistan’s data accuracy for environmental and agricultural planning but also reduce dependence on foreign imagery sources.
