Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has attributed the national cricket team’s struggles to the removal of Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy. Speaking in a recent interview, Amir claimed that Pakistan’s downfall in international cricket began after Sarfaraz was sidelined.
“Sarfaraz was a leader who brought energy to the team. After he was removed, Pakistan lost its direction and consistency,” Amir stated.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy victory, was removed as captain in 2019 and later replaced by Babar Azam. Since then, the team has faced inconsistent performances, including disappointing campaigns in major ICC tournaments.
Amir’s remarks have reignited debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning whether Sarfaraz’s leadership was undervalued. While some agree with Amir’s assessment, others argue that Pakistan’s issues stem from deeper structural problems within the team and management.
