Pakistan is preparing to roll out 5G services in selected cities, marking a major step toward digital transformation. According to official sources, the initial launch will take place in key metropolitan areas, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, with plans to expand coverage to other cities in phases.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has confirmed that infrastructure upgrades and spectrum allocations are in their final stages. The introduction of 5G is expected to significantly boost internet speeds, improve connectivity, and support advancements in sectors such as health, education, e-commerce, and smart governance.
Industry experts believe that 5G will open doors for Pakistan’s digital economy, attracting foreign investment and creating new job opportunities in the technology sector. However, they also caution that challenges such as high infrastructure costs and affordability for users will need to be addressed.
Telecom operators are expected to conduct trial runs in the coming months before the official launch, which is likely to happen by mid-2025.
