Pakistani rice exports to Saudi Arabia have experienced a significant surge of 25% in 2024, reaching a total value of $4 billion, marking a new milestone in bilateral trade between the two countries.
The surge in rice exports is attributed to the growing demand for high-quality Basmati and other varieties of rice from Pakistan, with Saudi Arabia being one of the largest importers of Pakistani rice in the Middle East. Experts attribute the growth to increased consumer preference for Pakistani rice due to its superior quality and taste, as well as strengthened trade ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
“Pakistan’s rice industry has seen remarkable growth this year, and the surge in exports to Saudi Arabia is a testament to the quality of our products,” said Muneeb Ali, an industry analyst. “The demand in Saudi Arabia has been consistent, and it’s encouraging to see this growth despite global economic challenges.”
Pakistani officials have also praised the positive impact of the surge on the country’s agricultural sector and the local economy, which stands to benefit from the continued success in the global rice market.
Saudi Arabia’s growing demand for rice has been fueled by the country’s large expatriate population, which primarily consumes rice in various traditional dishes, as well as the rising consumption of rice products across the kingdom.
As both countries continue to strengthen their trade relations, Pakistan is expected to explore new markets for its rice exports while maintaining its dominant position in the Saudi market.
