Islamabad — Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has announced a significant achievement in Pakistan’s agricultural sector, with exports hitting a record $8 billion for the first time. The announcement was made during a virtual meeting with the Sectoral Council for Rice and the Council for Dairy and its Products.
In his address, Khan emphasized the pivotal role these councils play in bolstering the national economy and highlighted the need for continued growth in export volumes. He set an ambitious target for the coming year, urging the councils to strive for a $5 billion export goal.
Khan expressed optimism about the sector’s potential, citing Pakistan’s strong market presence in Europe and the Gulf, particularly in rice. He stressed the importance of maintaining high-quality standards, including the production of pesticide-free products.
In addition to rice, vegetable exports have also seen a significant increase, surging by 43.2% to reach $430 million for the fiscal year 2023-24. This surge reflects the growing global demand for Pakistani produce and underscores the sector’s expanding role in the country’s export landscape.
