Pakistan’s Ahsan Ayaz has advanced to the final of the Colleyville Open Squash tournament after a nail-biting semi-final against Malaysia’s Yi Zhiayi Siu. Despite being down 0-2, Ayaz showcased remarkable resilience, ultimately clinching the match with a 2-3 victory. The final scores were 11-8, 11-2, 10-12, 6-11, and 9-11 in Ayaz’s favor.
Ayaz’s journey to the final has been nothing short of impressive. In the quarter-finals, he defeated Ireland’s Dennis Gilewski with a solid 1-3 result. Earlier, after receiving a bye in the first round, Ayaz faced off against the USA’s Philip Pentel in the second round, emerging victorious and advancing further into the competition.
The Colleyville Open, held in Texas, boasts a total prize pool of $3,000, attracting top talent from around the world.
Hailing from Peshawar, Ahsan Ayaz is no stranger to success. He has dominated the national junior squash scene, securing the national junior championship title 25 times across various age categories. On the international stage, Ayaz has also left his mark by winning prestigious tournaments such as the PSA Malaysian Tour-4 Championship and the PSA ISAM Pro-Open trophy in California.
