Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on February 28, 2025, to sight the moon for the beginning of Ramzan 1446 AH. However, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), there is “no chance” of moon sighting on that evening.
The PMD has stated that the new moon will be born at 5:45 PM (PST) on February 28. However, astronomical conditions indicate that the crescent will not be visible on the 29th of Shaban 1446 AH.
As per the Met Office’s forecast, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy or fair across most parts of the country on that day. Since the moon is unlikely to be sighted, the month of Shaban will complete 30 days, and Ramzan 2025 will begin on March 2 (Sunday). Consequently, the first fast (Roza) will be observed on March 2.
Significance of Ramzan
Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, offer Tarawih prayers, and participate in Iftar gatherings. The holy Quran was also revealed during this sacred month.
In Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, consisting of religious scholars from various Islamic schools of thought, plays a key role in officially announcing the beginning of Islamic months based on moon sighting.
Expected Eid-ul-Fitr Date
Based on this prediction, Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 is expected to fall on April 1, 2025 (Tuesday), subject to the moon sighting for Shawwal 1446 AH.
Stay tuned for further updates as the official moon sighting announcement will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on February 28.
