In a significant development, Pakistan’s cricketing stalwarts — Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi — are likely to be rested for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed.
The decision comes as part of a broader rotation policy aimed at managing player workload and building bench strength. With a packed international calendar and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, the team management is reportedly considering giving opportunities to younger players.
“These three have been the backbone of Pakistan cricket across formats, but it’s important to give them strategic rest,” an official familiar with the developments said. “It’s also a good chance to test our bench and give new talent exposure at the international level.”
The series against Bangladesh, expected to begin in late June, may feature emerging stars such as Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris, and Zaman Khan in more prominent roles.
An official squad announcement is expected in the coming days.
