Lahore is set to witness one of its largest urban-greenery projects as authorities announce plans for a 40-kilometer-long Green Zone featuring 30 new parks, averaging a recreational spot roughly every 1.3 kilometers.
The project, designed to enhance environmental sustainability and improve citizens’ quality of life, will introduce walking tracks, cycling lanes, children’s play areas, and shaded green belts along the stretch. Officials say the initiative will help combat rising temperatures, reduce pollution, and promote healthier lifestyles.
According to the city administration, work will be carried out in phases, with priority areas expected to open to the public earlier than the full completion timeline. Urban planners have praised the move, calling it a transformative step for Lahore’s fast-growing population.
Residents have expressed optimism, noting that accessible parks every short distance will make recreational spaces available to families across multiple neighborhoods.
