In a significant move aimed at bolstering financial stability among its top-tier cricketers, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a comprehensive three-year central contract system, effective from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026. This initiative marks a proactive step by the PCB to recognize and reward the efforts of its senior players.
The newly announced contracts encompass a total of 25 cricketers, strategically grouped into four distinct categories based on their performance and value to the national team.
Category A comprises stalwarts of Pakistan cricket including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. These players, recognized as pivotal to Pakistan’s success across formats, are set to receive monthly retainers of Rs6 million each.
Category B encompasses a cadre of promising talents such as Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan. This category, critical for maintaining depth in the squad, will enjoy monthly retainers of Rs4.1 million.
Category C features players like Imad Wasim and Abdullah Shafique, who have shown potential and utility in various roles. They will receive Rs1.75 million per month under their contracts.
Category D includes several emerging players and those vital for specific roles within the team setup. Players in this category, including Fahim Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, and others, will earn Rs1.13 million per month.
A notable aspect of these contracts is the incorporation of ICC revenue shares into the players’ earnings, reflecting the PCB’s commitment to aligning financial rewards with international performance benchmarks.
Speaking on the occasion, a PCB spokesperson emphasized that this contract structure aims to provide stability and incentives to players, thereby encouraging consistent high-level performances in both domestic and international cricket.
The announcement comes amidst a crucial phase for Pakistan cricket, as the national team gears up for upcoming challenges across all formats, including the highly anticipated ICC events.
The PCB remains optimistic that this initiative will not only bolster the morale of its senior players but also contribute to sustained success in global cricket arenas.
