Lahore: A pet lion, kept at a private residence in Lahore’s Harbanspura area, was shot and killed by security guards after it escaped from its enclosure and roamed the streets, creating panic among the local community.
According to police, Ali Adnan, a resident of a housing scheme in Harbanspura, had been keeping the lion on his property. On Thursday evening, the lion managed to escape and wandered into the streets of the residential society.
Terrified residents quickly reported the incident to authorities through the emergency helpline. As the situation escalated, the security guards of the housing society acted preemptively, opening fire and neutralizing the animal before it could cause harm.
Wildlife officials and police arrived on the scene shortly after the incident to assess the situation. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the lion’s escape and whether keeping such a dangerous animal in a residential area was legally permitted.
The incident has sparked a debate on the risks of exotic pet ownership in urban settings.
