In a candid and emotional interview on the weekly podcast “Real Ones” with Jon Bernthal, American comedian Pete Davidson revealed the heart-wrenching details of his father’s tragic demise during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Davidson’s father, Scott Davidson, was a firefighter who displayed immense bravery during the fateful day, running into the Marriott World Trade Centre just moments before the devastating attacks.
The former Saturday Night Live host disclosed that his father’s sudden death when he was just seven years old left him grappling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for years.
“I got picked up by my mom. She didn’t tell me what was going on for like three days. She kept telling me dad’s at work; I had no idea,” recalled Davidson during the podcast. “My mom’s like, ‘You’re just grounded, you’re not allowed to watch TV.’ I was like, ‘What? I didn’t do anything.’ And then one night, I turn on the TV and I saw my dad on TV. They’re like, ‘These are all the firemen who are dead,'” he continued, his voice filled with emotion.
During those harrowing days, the young Pete Davidson and his family were caught in a painful limbo of uncertainty as they anxiously awaited news about Scott Davidson’s fate amidst the chaos of people being rescued from the collapsed building rubble.
“There was just some sort of hope and it was just up and down, and nobody knew the right way to deal with it,” Davidson shared.
In his interview, the 29-year-old comedian also took a moment to praise his mother for her incredible strength and resilience during the family’s darkest hours.
“That’s why, as I get older, I’m like, ‘Man, my mom was awesome’,” he said, reflecting on his mother’s role in helping him navigate the challenges brought on by his father’s tragic death.
Pete Davidson’s candid revelations provide a poignant reminder of the lasting impact that the events of September 11, 2001, had on countless families across the United States. His story serves as a testament to the resilience of those who endured the unimaginable loss on that tragic day.
