ISLAMABAD – In a welcome development for the public, petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to decrease by Rs. 12 per litre starting April 16, according to sources within the petroleum division.
The anticipated reduction comes in the wake of a global decline in crude oil prices and the recent appreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar. The government is expected to announce the new rates on April 15 after finalizing the summary submitted by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
If approved, this will be the third consecutive reduction in fuel prices, offering much-needed relief to citizens facing rising inflation.
The final decision will be made after consultations with the Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Diesel prices may also see a similar drop, although exact figures are yet to be confirmed.
The new prices, once approved, will be applicable from midnight on April 16, 2025.
